PH to hold powwow on creation of grand coalition for GE15 [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Main parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) will meet in the new year to discuss the formation of a grand coalition to face the 15th General Election (GE15).

"We are meeting next year...by next year I mean January. And this (the formation of a grand coalition) will be discussed definitely.

"I don't want to add anything more than what I have said," DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng told newsmen at the Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda ferry terminal here this morning, when he went on his last ride on the iconic car-carrying ferry.

He was asked on how PH aimed to unite all the opposition parties in facing the next GE.

Lim said talk of the grand coalition was suggested by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu, in his presidential speech in conjunction with Amanah's 2020 National Convention in Bukit Katil, Melaka, which was broadcast live on the official Amanah Facebook page, on Boxing Day.

Mohamad had said that Amanah was prepared to play the role of peacemaker and be the bridge to bring together opposition parties to form a grand coalition to face the GE15.

He had also expressed confidence that PH would be able to find common ground and strengthen ties between all opposition leaders.

Lim said this was what it was all about when they mentioned the political reset for PH Plus -- to unite all the opposition members of parliament (MPs).

He said this was also in line with his joint statement with Mohamad on Dec 17, that there should be a political reset for PH Plus.

"Somehow, this is misinterpreted by some quarters to say that this is an attempt to change the leader. No! The leader still remains the same.

"But what we want is that instead of focusing on trying to get kleptocrat MPs from Umno, we should be focused on uniting the opposition.

"I think that is more effective, in focusing our minds on people-centric issues as well as to prepare for GE15. When you are united, there are better changes of winning," he said.

As such, Lim said, there was a need for a political reset.

"And instead of getting support from kleptocratic Umno MPs, we focus on uniting all the opposition MPs," he added.
