Mohamad Sabu returns as Amanah president, Mujahid is his deputy

KLANG: Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu returns as the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) for another term during the party polls, concurrently held with the party's 2023 national convention today.

The 2023-2026 term will be the last for the Kota Raja member of parliament to helm the top leadership in Amanah.

Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, previously one of the three Amanah vice presidents, was announced as the new party deputy president.

The late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub previously held the post.

The former Pulai MP, who was the domestic trade and cost of living minister, died after undergoing surgery to treat brain haemorrhage at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah, on July 23.

It was also announced at the party's convention that Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and former Seri Serdang assemblywoman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud were the two of three Amanah vice-presidents for the 2023-2026 term.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari retained his position as Amanah vice-president for another term.

Mohamad, Mujahid and the three vice presidents were among several party leaders who secured a seat in the party's 27-member National Amanah Leadership Committee on the party election.

Dr Dzulkefly, previously the party's strategic director, polled the highest number of votes at 900 to secure a seat in the committee.

Other prominent figures voted into the committee included former Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, the current Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof, former Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat, former Tampin MP Professor Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom, Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, Senator Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli, former Permatang Pasir assemblyman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan, Taman Templer assemblywoman Anfaal Saari, Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim; and Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh.

According to the party's constitution, the 27 top leaders who secured a seat in the committee decided among them the top five positions for the 2023-2026 term.

The top five posts were the party president, deputy president and three vice-presidents.

A total of 1,003 party delegates voted during the party polls.
