Early success for newly formed pair Pang Ron-Su Yin

KUALA LUMPUR: The newly formed partnership of Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin didn't have to wait long to land their maiden international title.

The national mixed doubles duo clinched the Malaysia International Challenge title in Ipoh today when they downed Taiwan's Lin Yu Chieh-Hsu Yin Hui 21-17, 21-19 in the final at the Arena Badminton Perak.

Notably, this is only Pang Ron-Su Yin's second international tournament after the Korea Masters in Gwangju last week.

Pang Ron-Su Yin's target is to get their international ranking as high as possible, with two more tournaments remaining for the year.

Pang Ron said: "I'm very happy to be able to lead a junior (Su Yin) who is only 20, to win the title here.

"Our target this year is modest because we only have four tournaments."

Last year, Pang Ron won the mixed doubles title with his former partner, Teoh Mei Xing.

Both Pang Ron and Mei Xing were split after 10 months due to mediocre results, and also for Mei Xing to concentrate in the women's doubles event.

In the women's doubles final, Malaysia's Ng Qi Xuan-Yap Kee lost 21-11, 21-18 to Taiwan's Lin Chih Chun-Sung Yu Hsuan.

In the women's singles final, Japan's Miho Kayama downed national shuttler Wong Ling Ching 23-21, 21-16.
