Pang Ron-Su Yin power into Syed Modi semis

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin remained firmly in contention for their second title in as many tournaments after powering into the semi-finals of the Syed Modi India International in Lucknow on Friday.

Pang Ron-Su Yin, the Malaysia International Challenge winners a fortnight ago, advanced after triumphing 23-21, 21-15 against Taiwan's Chang Ko Chi-Lee Chih Chen.

The world No. 175 have now gone eight matches unbeaten, a fine record considering they have just been paired up early last month.

A big test awaits Pang Ron-Su Yin as they are going up against 2021 All England runners-up Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo of Japan next.

Malaysia will also be represented in the semi-finals on Saturday after Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri progressed from their match against teammates Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Junaidi without having to lift their racquets.

This follows after Roy King sustained a left knee injury during the last-16 stage.

Standing in between Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri from their career first World Tour final are second seeds Ben Lane-Sean Vendy of England.

Meanwhile, Soong Joo Ven and Wong Ling Ching's gallant runs in the men's singles and women's singles competitions respectively have come to an end.

Joo Ven went down 21-16, 21-17 to Alex Lanier of France, the last year's European junior champion while Ling Ching gave world No. 25 Hsu Wen Chi of Taiwan a run for her money before losing 19-21, 21-17, 21-15.
