Pang Ron-Su Yin bow out in semi-finals in Lucknow

KUALA LUMPUR: Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin's impressive run at the Super 300 Syed Modi International in Lucknow ended in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The national mixed doubles duo, playing in only their third tournament together, lost in three games 17-21, 21-5, 21-17 to fifth seeds Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo of Japan.

Yuki-Misaki will play Indonesia's Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the final on Sunday.National mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto had expected more from his charges but is satisfied with Pang Ron-Su Yin's overall performance throughout the week.

"The result today could have been better; we had expected Pang Ron-Su Yin to reach the final. "However, they made too many simple mistakes and didn't look ready going up against their Japanese opponents.

"Having said that, this is only their third tournament together," Nova told Timesport when contacted. In their first tournament together, the Super 300 Korea Masters last month, Pang Ron-Su Yin crashed out in the second round.

The world No. 175 bounced back in style to capture their maiden international title a fortnight ago when they won the Malaysia International Challenge in Perak.Nova, a two-time former world champion, hopes to see Pang Ron-Su Yin playing in more higher-level tournaments next year.

To achieve that, the pair must improve their world rankings fast. "Next up for Pang Ron-Su Yin is the Super 100 Guwahati Masters (Dec 5-10), also in India.

"I want to see them doing better, only then can they move up the rankings faster and play in higher-tier tournaments next season," added Nova.
