ISAM chief tells critics to stop making accusations

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ice Skating Association of Malaysian (ISAM) have called on their critics to stop the baseless accusations against them.

ISAM have been accused of bullying and making double standard decisions against their athletes.

ISAM president Fadzli Johan today urged the detractors to stop making these baseless claims in the best interest of ice sports in the country, "Since we won five gold medals (Sea Games) and the WOG (Winter Olympic Games), there have been issues created by people, who wish not to be named, accusing the association of bullying, double standard and not helping the athletes.

"We are adapting the TN50 of sports where equal chances have been given to all without being biased," he said.

ISAM have come under scrutiny over two issues: money not channeled properly and an ineligible athlete receiving a gold medal at the Sea Games last August.

Fadzli explained that the association have channelled the money based on the instructions of the National Sports Council (NSC).

"On the issue of the money given to the athletes, Julian deserved the help and we had done our part.

"All the money from NSC was channelled to his account without deduction or whatsoever. NST instructed us and we just followed.

"It's the same issue of the fifth skater. We were given instructions and decisions were made by the stakeholders, we just follow.

“Someone is not happy because we (ISAM) did things as per advice and based on the challenge by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), to educate the younger generation to be more positive and to walk on the right path of the government succession plan," he said.

Fadzli also voiced his grievances about the parties whom he described as having their own agendas to ruin all the good work done by the association.

Last week, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar urged ISAM to quickly sort out their problems as the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang draw near.

Previously, it was reported that ISAM will be investigated by the OCM independent disciplinary board following claims that a national skater, Muhammad Ameer Iman, who is also the association president's second son, had received a gold medal (although not eligible) as part of the 3,000m short track speed skating relay team that triumphed at the Sea Games.
