NSC will allow coach, cleared of misconduct, to continue work

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Council (NSC) is steadfast in its decision to allow the coach, who has been cleared of sexual misconduct, to resume duties.

NSC stressed that it had conducted a comprehensive and detailed investigation into the allegation against the national para-swimming coach concerned.

In a press statement today, the NSC said the decision was made after investigations by the police and the council's Misconduct and Protection in Sports Committee.

"The NSC's Misconduct and Protection in Sports Committee interviewed 11 witnesses and examined the evidence in related documents before reaching this decision," read the statement.

"It is the commitment of the NSC to always prioritize a safe environment for all parties involved in NSC's training programmes, and the NSC has never compromised on any actions that could harm the country's athletes.

"At the same time, the NSC wants to remind everyone that the mental and physical well-being of athletes and coaches must always be prioritized, and any claims made without evidence can jeopardize those who are preparing to participate in major world sporting events."

Earlier, Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin, president of the Malaysia Paralympic Council, has slammed NSC's decision to reinstate the para swimming coach who faced various allegations, including sexual misconduct.

He had said reinstating the coach would not solve the problems that the national team were facing.
