Teacher dies in NSE highway crash

SEREMBAN: A couple’s journey returning to their hometown to attend a ‘kenduri’ turned tragic when one of them was killed in a road accident at Km245.6 of the North South Expressway, last night.

Teacher, Wizana Moktie, 40, of SMK Seri Kundang, Rawang died on the spot while her husband, Mohd Fauzan Hamidon, 44, a firefighter from Subang Airbase station sustained head injuries.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Zaki Harun said the pair were travelling from Rawang, Selangor back to their hometown in Malacaa when the 11.35pm incident occurred.

"It is believed the accident happened when the four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by Mohd Fauzan rammed into the back of a lorry that was laden with cooking oil. The impact caused the lorry to burst a tyre and crash into the emergency lane.

"Wizana, who was sitting in the front passenger seat sustained serious injuries and died on the spot; while the lorry driver R Murugan, 34, and his attendant M Navindan, 18, were unhurt," he said when contacted today.

Zaki said Fauzan was sent to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Senawang fire station operation chief Rudi Hartono said a seven-man team rushed to the scene after they received an emergency call at 11.21pm.

"It took us about five minutes to free the victims trapped in the car," he said.
