Numerous NGOs involved in aiding foreign interference in Malaysia, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign interference in Malaysia started way back in 1993 with plans and strategies to start a revolution to topple a democratically-elected government, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

“Based on intelligence reports, several non-governmental organisations were involved, namely, Suaram, Bersih, Bar Council, Malaysiakini and Sarawak Report," said Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

“As the Home Minister, I have been entrusted to get to the bottom of this matter (foreign interference). I will review all information and take action against those who have committed offences," he said in his winding up speech at the Umno General Assembly today.

“A task force has been established comprising the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Bank Negara and the Attorney General's chambers," he added.

Zahid also pledge his loyalty to party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and warned the people not to pit him against Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, as they were like “brothers”.

On the plight of the Rohingya community in Myanmar, Zahid said the government has no intention of interfering in other nations’ affairs but was responding purely on humanitarian grounds.
