Immigration works closely with other agencies to re-arrest 130 escaped detainees

IPOH: The Immigration Department (JIM) is working closely with several agencies to re-arrest 130 out of 131 who escaped from Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot here.

Its director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh in a statement today also confirmed that one detainee was killed after being involved in an accident.

"A total of 275 officers and personnel from various agencies such as JIM, police, General Operations Force (GOF) and Rela have been instructed to locate all the escaped detainees since last night.

"This morning, a total of 100 personnel and officers consisting of JIM and GOF were added to track down the detainees," he said.

He added that those with information are urged to contact Bidor Immigration Depot Operations Room at 05-4348736; Bidor Police Station (05-4342222) and Tapah Police Station (05-4011222).

Earlier, police confirmed that 131 illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Rohingya ethnics escaped from the depot.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi said that there was a riot incident inside the male block depot, and all the detainees managed to flee the facility.

"We received the first call about the incident yesterday, informing us that 131 detainees had escaped the Bidor Immigration Depot.

"One of the escapees also died after being involved in an accident at KM335 of the North-South Expressway (northbound)," Mohd Naim said.
