Policeman dies in single-vehicle crash on LPT2

DUNGUN: A policeman was killed after a car he was travelling in skidded before smashing into a slope along the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2) near Paka today.

The victim Lance Corporal Mohd Rafshanjani Mohmad Rafdzi, 33, died instantly in the crash which occurred at Km339.6 on the LPT2 at 12.15pm.

It was learnt that Rafshanjani suffered severe head and body injuries.

According to a police source, Rafshajani was in his Honda Civic FD heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kuantan.

“Rafshanjani was believed to have lost control of the car before it skidded and rammed into the slope at the side of the highway. The impact resulted in the car turning turtle,” he added.

Paka Fire and Rescue station operation chief Zulkifli Mohd Ali said a fire engine and five personnel were immediately deployed to the scene.

Zulkifli said the victim from Rantau Panjang in Kelantan, was pinned in between the seats inside the wreckage.

He said the team took about five minutes to extract the victim from the car before he was sent to the Dungun Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
