Man hit and killed by trailer lorry while changing tyre on LPT2

DUNGUN: A man was struck and killed by a trailer lorry as he changed a flat tyre at KM360.5 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2), near Bukit Besi, here, this morning.

Mohd Zalaini Mohd Shafee, 31, a labourer at a private company at Kemaman Supply Base, died on the spot from serios head and body injuries after the trailer lorry crashed into him in the 5.30am incident.

His friend, Mohamad Abdul Azhim Suhairi, 18, who was with him in the Perodua MyVi said they were on their way to Kemaman when the car suddenly had a flat tyre, forcing Zalaini to stop by the roadside.

"Zalaini was changing the front tyre when suddenly a trailer lorry came and rammed straight into him," he said.

District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub who confirmed the incident said the deceased's remains had been sent to the Dungun Hospital for post mortem.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
