Bread delivery man dies after Wira crashes into lorry, 3 family members survive

KUANTAN: A bread delivery man was killed on his way home when his car collided with a lorry at Jalan Bukit Goh on Saturday.

In the 9.51pm incident, the victim Mohd Arif Harun, 35, from Felda Bukit Goh, driving a Proton Wira, died on the spot.

It took the team from the Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue station nearly half an hour to extricate the victim.

Passers-by went to the aid of his wife, son and nephew and rushed the survivors to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA).

Pahang Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Superintendent Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said initial investigation revealed that the deceased may have lost control of his vehicle, which veered into the opposite lane, before it rammed into the heavy vehicle.

"The collision killed the victim on the spot while members of the public helped remove his wife, son and nephew from the car and they were immediately brought to HTAA for further treatment," he said when contacted.

He said that the 40-year-old lorry driver sustained a fractured leg and three of his family members, who were travelling with him during the incident, sustained light injuries and were also sent to HTAA.

He added that investigation also showed the road where the accident took place was dark at the time, although the weather was fine.

He noted that the deceased's family had claimed his body following a post-mortem conducted at HTAA last night.

Mohd Noor said that the police are probing the matter under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
