2 lost hikers in weak condition rescued by firefighters

TAWAU: Firefighters today rescued two hikers who were too tired to descend the Bukit Panchang hiking trail here, after they had gone astray.

It was learnt that Mohammad Amirul Mohd, 17, and Mohd Hasrul Huswali, 22, had gone hiking in a group early morning but were separated from the others.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Public Relations Officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said the duo had tried to make their way down the hill but they experienced extreme fatigue.

“One of them contacted the district fire and rescue department at 11.25am, saying they had gone astray.

“Seven firefighters were despatched to search for the hikers. They were found and rescued at 1.13pm,” he said.

Mohd Affendy said the duo appeared weak and firefighters had provided drinks before taking them to safer ground.

The hikers were then sent to a hospital for a medical treatment.
