Careful when hiring aides, Selangor MB tells party leaders

SHAH ALAM: PKR central leadership council member Amirudin Shari today reminded fellow party leaders to be more careful when hiring aides.

He said more stringent background checks should be conducted before employing an aide.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, said this when asked if the party is planning to filter those who want to work for them in the near future.

This comes after two sex videos, allegedly involving a federal cabinet minister and a deputy minister’s aide, were spread on social media over the past few days.

A case in reference was Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, who left and rejoined PKR, in between a short stint with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu.

Muhammad Haziq, who is the senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, has been suspended with immediate effect.

However, Amirudin said now is not the time to point fingers at anyone.

“I do not want to blame anyone. They have their own justifications when it comes to picking the people to work for them. We are quite open.

“But this is a good lesson for us. We have to be careful in filtering the candidates and ensure we get someone good to run our office,” said Amirudin today.

He was met at the Hari Raya open house organised by Selangor State Development Corporation.

The event was also attended by Economics Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is allegedly featured in the two sex videos with Muhammad Haziq.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said nothing good will come out of gutter politics in Malaysia, adding that those who are behind the sex scandal should stop the act.

Amirudin said Malaysians are bored with politics revolving around dirty tactics to ruin one’s reputation.

“Malaysians reject gutter politics so I ask that the conspirators to repent. It is not worth trying to destroy someone’s political career and to sidetrack our efforts to develop the country,” he added.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, has denied the video's authenticity, saying that he believed there was a plot against him.

He said it was nothing but a nefarious plot to assassinate his reputation and character in an attempt to destroy his political career.
