#NSTviral: Guide's picture of 'Golden Halo' on Mount Kinabalu peak goes viral [NSTTV]

RANAU: The footage capturing a mesmerising "golden halo" on one of the peaks of Mount Kinabalu in Ranau has gained significant attention on social media, quickly becoming viral.

The owner of the picture, Daverond Dolius, 23, assured that the reflection of sunlight was seen at the peak near the Gurkha Hut area.

Gurkha Hut is one of the peaks and trails for high-altitude training (HAT) for experienced climbers aspiring to scale taller mountains than Mount Kinabalu. Other peaks are Alexandra, Victoria, and Oyayubi Iwu.

However, for now, the newly launched HAT only covers the Gurkha Hut.

"It is a genuine incident, and I have a video of it. I shot the picture from the Low's Peak Summit (which most climbers, regardless of their experience level, usually conquer).

"It happened during sunrise about 6am. There were about 100 climbers during that time. A climber whom I guided also took a picture of it," said Daverond, from Kota Belud, who has been a guide for six years.

His original post has been shared 370 times, and other social media platforms have also picked it up.

When Daverond was asked about his opinion of the image, he said he would leave the interpretation to the public.

Netizens have commented that the "golden halo" looks like a Kadazandusun Murut traditional headgear known as "Sigah"; some described the image as a golden dragon, necklace, or the sun bear chest patch.
