Selangor veterans bag Sultan Selangor Cup

SHAH ALAM: Selangor defeated Singapore 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time in front of 40,000 fans to regain the Sultan of Selangor Cup at the Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday.

Singapore's Faris Ramli, who plays for PKNS, was Selangor's hero when he converted the winning penalty.

Shuhei Hoshino netted for Singapore in the eighth minute before Selangor equalised through Rufino Segovia six minutes later to force the match into penalties.

In the veterans section, Selangor edged Singapore 3-2 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw.

Karim Pin scored for Selangor in the 15th minute before Steven Tan equalised 12 minutes later for Singapore.

Nazzab Hidzan emerged as the hero for Selangor, when he converted the winning kick after Steven had missed Singapore’s second kick.

Earlier, the Selangor Under-16 squad clinched the Selangor-Singapore School Challenge Trophy by defeating the Singapore Under-16 side 2-0.

The matches were played in a great carnival atmosphere at the stadium.

The fans came to witness three exciting matches between the two traditional rivals across the causeway, Selangor and Singapore.

To the delight of the fans, there were performances by artistes, a laser show, and a fireworks display.

On top of it all, there was a lucky draw for the fans with the winner getting a brand new Honda City.

Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah officiated the event and watched the matches.

Sultan Sharafuddin was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

Also watching the action were Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,

Selangor Menteri Besar , Amirudin Shari and Selangor Selection team manager Tan Sri Abdul Karim Munisar.
